POLICY
In keeping with the Core Values of St. Vincent's Hospital, family-centered visitation is encouraged to promote family cohesiveness and participation in the childbearing process while maintaining patient safety and well-being.
PROCEDURE
Special emphasis will be placed upon the protection of the newborn from infectious conditions. Visitors must be free of fever, colds, diarrhea and other infectious conditions 48 hours prior to visits. Handwashing will be required prior to touching the newborn. Family members or significant othersare allowed to visit at anytime as designated by the patient. Visitors may be asked to leave the room at anytime to provide privacy for assessment, teaching, or other interventions at the nurse's discretion. Our staff will work to plan these activities with the patient at the beginning of each shift to minimize conflict concerning priorities. Children under 12 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
